In addition to the five primary public post-secondary institutions in Calgary, private organizations play an important role in the city’s post-secondary system. The following institutions and schools provide a range of educational services.
The Academy of Learning is a global career training centre that has three locations in Calgary (central, northeast and south) and one in Airdrie. It offers self-paced study in information technology, customer service, accounting, office administration, insurance, web design and health care services.
Ambrose University College is a private Christian institution with two undergraduate faculties: arts and science, and theology.
CDI College provides career training in the fields of business, technology and health care from its downtown Calgary location.
Established in 1986, Columbia College is focused on providing adult education in both pre-career and career training programs. At the pre-career level, Columbia offers academic upgrading and English as a second language (ESL).
Columbia’s certificate and diploma programs include administration, business management, criminal justice, dental assistance, emergency medical technician and paramedic programs, health care, practical nursing and personal care attendance.
DeVry Institute has been a part of Calgary’s post-secondary landscape for over 25 years and is the largest DeVry school in Canada. It provides career-oriented bachelor degree programs in business and technology subjects.
Robertson College has schools in Winnipeg and Brandon, Manitoba in addition to Calgary, all focusing on career training in business, technology and health care.
St. Mary’s University College is a Catholic, post-secondary, liberal arts and sciences teaching and research institution. St Mary’s offers university transfer programs, degree programs and training for religious educators. Bachelor degrees are offered as three or four year programs.
University of Phoenix started offering masters in business and administration (MBA) classes in Calgary in 2005. It is the largest private university in the United States. The institution primarily focuses on educating working adults looking to further their studies.
