All Catholic elementary schools follow the curriculum set out by the province’s Department of Education, with the addition of a religious education component.
In Alberta, children are required by law to attend school, and elementary education ranges from kindergarten (for five to six year olds) to grade six (for 11 to 12 year olds).
Most parents enroll children in their community’s, or neighbouring community’s Catholic elementary school, although some may select a different school depending on its focus on the arts, sports, sciences or language/culture.
If you are looking for a school, the Calgary Catholic School District has details on each of the 103 Catholic elementary schools in the city.
