The YMCA and YWCA are Calgary fitness facilities that also run camps and community programs to promote wellness and a healthy society.
In 1902, Calgary welcomed the YMCA as a place for men to explore spiritual values and leisure activities. Over the years, YMCA Calgary has evolved its mandate to offer quality programs and services that help build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
The YWCA is committed to social change, and works to build a healthy community by building strength and capacity in women. They focus their efforts on areas of domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, children and families, and health and wellness.
The organization provides an important emergency shelter and transitional housing for women and children in need.
In terms of the organizations’ fitness centres, the YWCA has a co-ed facility with professional trainers, spacious weight room, cardio machines, aerobic studios, squash courts and a saltwater pool. It’s at 320 - 5th Avenue SE downtown.
The YMCA has four fitness centres around Calgary (with a fifth on the way). Visit their website to learn about the equipment and services at each location.
