Fish Creek Provincial Park is Canada’s largest urban park, stretching 19 kilometres from end to end.
Named after the creek that runs through it and empties into the Bow River, the park encompasses 1,348 hectares (13.48 square kilometres) of grasslands and wetlands, as well as coniferous and deciduous forests.
It also has 46 kilometres of fantastic red shale and paved pathways, making it a hot spot for bikers and runners. You truly feel like you’re out in the wild, even though you haven’t left the boundaries of the city.
The park also contains a human-made lake for swimmers, interpretive facilities and fire pits for picnics. The park is a sanctuary for many species of wildlife, including the protected great blue heron.
There are entrances to Fish Creek’s facilities and trails off of many major roads in southern Calgary.
