In spring, Fourth Street between 12th Avenue and Elbow Drive SW is blocked off for the Fourth Street Lilac Festival – a street fair with live music, merchants and great international food.
In 2009, 125,000 people showed up to the one-day festival in May that celebrates the blossoming of lilacs in the Mission area. There were over 600 craft, food and entertainment vendors set up along the 13 blocks of the festival.
The event has been voted “Calgary’s Best Free Festival” for 12 years running by the local arts and culture weekly Fast Forward.
