Alberta has more than 1,000 lakes and streams that contain 59 species of fish, and 300 of these lakes are stocked by facilities like the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery.
The hatchery opened in 1973 and was named after one of Calgary’s earliest homesteaders. It is one of two fish hatcheries and two trout brood stations operated by the Government of Alberta's Sustainable Resource Development Department, and it raises as many as three million fish annually.
The new Bow Habitat Station at the hatchery includes hand-on exhibits, interactive programs, displays and aquariums.
The hatchery is located in Inglewood, just east of the downtown core at 1440 - 17A Street SE.
