The Cantos Music Foundation is a non-profit organization with a world-renowned collection of 700 musical artifacts.
The collection includes over 450 keyboards, and traces the evolution of the instrument from the pipe organ to modern electronic examples.
Among the dozens of rare pieces, Cantos has one of the earliest pianos made in North America (circa 1790), a prized Flemish harpsichord, a songwriting piano previously owned by Sir Elton John and The Rolling Stones’ Mobile Studio (used to record some of their best records between 1970 and 1980).
Cantos is also in the process of designing its new National Music Centre at the King Eddy site in the Calgary’s East Village. The King Eddy was Calgary’s original home to blues music. The new centre would include an education research centre, museum, recording studio and performance space.
For now though, the Cantos Music Foundation is just to the southeast of the downtown core in the Warehouse District at 134 - 11th Avenue SE.
