Fort Calgary Historic Park is where the original Northwest Mounted Police post was established in 1875. The police arrived at the junction of the Bow and Elbow rivers to establish a new fort, setting the stage for the next 135 years of Calgary history.
Today, Fort Calgary offers tours of various exhibits that help visitors experience the environment, history, lifestyle and events of Calgary’s history.
The site includes the reconstructed 1875 fort, an interpretive centre with exhibits depicting Calgary between 1875 and the 1940s, a replica 1888 barracks, the Deane House Historic Site and restaurant, and a 16 hectare riverside park with interpretive pathways.
Fort Calgary is open year round excluding major holidays, and is at 750 - 9th Avenue SE.
