The Calgary Tower is the city’s most famous and identifiable physical landmark: it’s a 191-metre freestanding observation tower that is the fourth tallest structure in the city.
An observation deck allows visitors to step out into space on an 11-metre long, one-metre wide glass floor and look directly down on the city 160 metres below. A rotating restaurant at the top of the Calgary Tower completes a full 360-degree rotation over the course of an hour, providing a great view of Calgary.
Throughout the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch burned non-stop at the top of the tower and is still lit on special occasions. There are two great theatre companies located at the base of the tower: Vertigo Theatre and Lunchbox Theatre.
To get to the tower, head downtown to 101 - 9th Avenue SW. Needless to say, you won’t miss it.
