Calgary’s eclectic arts scene includes public galleries, working studios, artist-run centres, collectives and artisan shops.

Here are some of the more popular sites in town for getting a little visual inspiration:

  • Art Central is a beautiful downtown art complex with over 50 artist studios and galleries
  • The Art Gallery of Calgary is the city’s premier public contemporary art gallery
  • Nickle Arts Museum sits on the University of Calgary campus and champions contemporary art in western Canada
  • Stride Gallery is a non-profit, artist-run centre that exhibits diverse professional artists
  • The New Gallery is an artist-run centre for the presentation and promotion of contemporary art in Calgary
  • The Glenbow is Calgary’s premier museum with an art collection focused on the history and development of the region
  • Truck is a contemporary art gallery in downtown Calgary
  • The Triangle Gallery is a public visual arts gallery with rotating exhibits

If you, or members of your family, are interested in studying the visual arts, there are many spots in town to sign up for some training. 

For advanced students, the University of Calgary has a Department of Art while the Alberta College of Art and Design is one of the country’s premier art and design schools.
