Since 1987, hundreds of thousands of people have seen the Bard’s classics performed in the great outdoors each summer by Mount Royal University’s Shakespeare in the Park.
The one-of-a-kind shows bring Shakespeare’s plays to life at the lovely Prince’s Island Park on the Bow River.
Shakespeare in the Park started out as a program of Mount Royal’s theatre department. Today, they are their own company overseen by the Mount Royal Conservatory.
Generally, they perform three to five Shakespeare plays a season. Last year’s performances included Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The company also hosts a one-week summer Shakespeare workshop.
