Calgary is the financial centre of western Canada – all of Canada’s major banks maintain their western Canadian head offices here.
The city’s dynamic financial sector includes a range of multinational and retail banks, investment firms, stockbrokers, trust companies and credit unions.
Of the 21,900 new jobs created in Alberta in the sector between 2001 and 2010, more than 60.7 per cent were in the Calgary Economic region.
The industry accounts for 6.3 per cent of Calgary's total employment.
