Calgary is Canada’s energy capital.
It is the decision-making hub and head office of every major oil and gas company in the country and is rapidly becoming an innovative national centre for financing, designing, constructing and operating electric power plants that use diverse power sources such as wind, run-of-river hydro, natural gas, coal and biomass.
Alberta’s Department of Energy reports that almost one in six workers in the province is directly or indirectly employed in the energy sector – a number that is expected to grow.
Calgary is home to 1,671 companies in the oil and gas and mining extraction industry. These companies employ 55,800 workers, with many more working in related industries such as manufacturing and professional and technical services.
