Calgary’s economy is becoming increasingly diversified, and the city’s workforce is spread across a wide range of industries. You couldn’t always have said that.
While the energy sector is the leading individual driver of Calgary’s economy, there are a few other industries hot on its tail.
The professional services, technical, manufacturing, transportation, financial and construction sectors that took root here to support and service the oil and gas companies have become their own viable industries.
This means that an increasingly broad and balanced range of sectors and jobs is adding to the city’s prosperity, while long-established economic pillars are branching out.
For example, Calgary is leveraging its position as the headquarters of Canada’s oil and gas industry to become a global centre for all things energy, including sustainable and renewable technologies and alternate fuel development.
As many current Calgarians can attest, it’s an exciting time to be working here.
