There is a large variety of housing available for rent in Calgary, and the market for renters eased slightly in 2010, making it a little easier (and a little cheaper) to find a rental home than it had been in recent years..
The most common rental properties available are apartments in larger multi-unit buildings, but houses, town-homes, basement suites and even single rooms are also out there. Furnished and un-furnished rental homes are generally available, but you’re probably more likely to find a furnished apartment than a furnished house.
Here are some of the average prices based on residence type, according to a Fall 2010 report by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation:
Obviously, your rent will vary depending on where in the city you choose to live, and the type of housing you need. Houses, apartments and condominiums in and around the downtown core are generally more expensive than in the outlying suburbs.
If you are new to the country, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Newcomer’s Guide to Canadian Housing is an excellent resource in helping you find a comfortable place to live.
