Elbow Park is a stately community of beautiful homes just south of downtown, protected by the calmly flowing Elbow River.
This is one of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhoods, having been established in 1910, and many of the area’s original homes still stand. They’re not exactly falling apart from age though: most have been renovated to new heights of grandeur, yet still maintain their original character.
Property here doesn’t come cheap by any means, but if you’re not in the market for a million dollar home, the area is still a hot spot due to its many parks, natural beauty and friendly rhythm.
Mission and 17th Avenue are within walking distance of Elbow Park, and both have unmatched art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, lounges and pubs.
In terms of outdoor fun, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better community than this one.
Arguably, the nicest stretch of the city’s river pathway system is along the Elbow River here, as it winds by Stanley Park and Sandy Beach. In the summer heat, the Elbow is full of river rafters lazily making their way north.
The Elbow River Community Centre has a playground, two ice hockey rinks, a skating rink, a baseball diamond and basketball and tennis courts.
There are two schools in the community:
William Reid Bilingual Elementary
Elbow Park’s main route of access is via Elbow Drive, which winds its way alongside the river. The CTrain doesn’t come this way, but there are several bus routes serving the community.
