All vehicles registered in another province must pass an out of province vehicle inspection within three months of being brought into Alberta, before they can be registered in the province.
The inspection is a basic safety and mechanical fitness assessment that involves all components of the vehicle from fuel and exhaust systems to wipers and defrosters. Structural integrity inspections are also carried out.
The program is privatized, meaning that you need to find a certified journeyman technician licensed by Alberta Transportation’s Vehicle Inspection Program to conduct the assessment.
These companies provide automobile inspection services, but be sure to confirm that they are licensed with the program in advance.
